Gram staining
Gram staining is commonly used to distinguish two types of bacteria depending on their different cell wall constituents. The procedure distinguishes between Gram-positive and Gram-negative groups by colouring the cells red or violet. Gram-positive bacteria stain violet, while Gram-negative bacteria stain red.
