Bone marrow transplantation (BMT), or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), is a medical procedure to replace damaged or diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells. These stem cells can come from a donor (allogeneic transplantation) or from the patient's own body (autologous transplantation).

Bone marrow transplantation is nothing but replacing the deceased marrow with healthy marrow stem cells. The source of healthy stem cells may be from the patient or a donor.
