Small doses of radioactive elements, sometimes referred to as radiopharmaceuticals or radiotracers, are used in the medical specialty of nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses. It provides information that is frequently not possible to collect using conventional imaging modalities, giving unique insights into the physiology of the body and its organs.
